June 2010
We are just waiting a few final paperwork and we will have the Portage Cross-Country Ski area on the East Cottage Rd as part of our Trail System. These new trails will allow us to almost connect with Buffalo. A couple more Land Use Permits and we will have a large loop around Buffao and Portage. When these trails become available, they will be posted on our website.
April 2010
In our April meeting, we elected our club officers. All officers stayed the same this year. You can see the list of officers on the about us page. However, our Trail Master, Harold Cyr had surgery this past winter and will need extra help this summer. Milton Jandreau volunteered to be Assisant to the Trailmaster. Jeanie Jones will still be putting up the trail signs. If you want to help out in marking and cleaning the trails let us know.
April 2010
As you all know, we are land locked by many large corporations, and do not have any trails leading out of the Portage Lake area. Irving Woodlands is the only company that has worked with us and came up with a plan that has allowed us acces on their lands. Not being able to connect with ATV trails in other towns has a negative impact on our town and club. We, as a club, are inelligable for most large grants because we are not connected to the rest of the Maine ATV trail system. This past spring a bill was rejected in Augusta that would've gave Maine Wardens the right to stop ATVers without probable cause. This didn't meet approval to our surrounding corporations, and they still will not allow ATVs on their lands. Our next step is to see if we can get a Land Use Permit with the state of Maine along Route 11 for 3/4 mile. This will connect us back to Irving Lands and we will be able to connect with the Eagle Lake ATV Club trails. We will soon be issuing letters to our government officials concerning the inability to come to any agreement with any other surrounding corportations.
